The Suomi submachine gun, commonly known as the Suomi KP/-31, was a Finnish-designed weapon that became famous during the Second World War for its accuracy, reliability and high rate of fire. It was particularly effective in the hands of Finnish troops fighting the Soviet Union in the Winter War and Continuation War.
Development and manufacture
1920s — Early development.
Finnish firearms designer Aimo Lahti developed early submachine-gun designs, including the M-22 and KP/-26, which led to the better-known KP/-31.
1931–1939 — Production and service
The KP/-31 entered Finnish military service in 1931, with production by Tikkakoski. By the outbreak of the Winter War in November 1939, Finland had approximately 4,000 of these submachine guns.
All deactivated weapons sold by Vigo Militaria and Collectables are deactivated in the United Kingdom and hold London or Birmingham proof marks and a certificate stating that the weapon has been deactivated correctly.
