Rare German WWI Granatenwerfer 16 Signal Flare Grenade - Inert

This is an exceptionally rare German World War One Signal Flare Round for the Granatenwerfer 16 (Grenade Thrower 16) "Spigot Mortar".
It measures approximately 12 1/2 inches long, and is in good condition for its age. The end cap is removabel and has a small amount of age related damage- see pictures.
These were used for field illumination, and could be used in the air or on the ground to light up an area where an attack was directed.
