WW1 German Fighting Knive and scabbard - Nahkampfmesser.
With period markings this original WW1 German Fighting / Trench Knife, by maker Ern Wald Rheinl and marked as such is in good though a little aged condition.
The 6 inch blade has been cut down and resharpened at some point in its long life, and is still sharp. The grip is good, the metal sheath is in good condition for its age.
The knife sheathes and draws well and sits tight in its sheath.
This Nahkampfmesser is over 100 years old and would be a great addition to any collection.

The Nahkampfmesser remained in service in modified form through to the end of the Second World War.
German-issued trench knives of World War I were "conventional, general-purpose, cut-and-thrust knives" with blades that were "for the most part approximately six inches in length, single-edged with a top leading false edge, although double-edged blades are occasionally encountered.
